The Story of Foree Branch

The Foree (pronounced “four E”) Branch is a small tributary of the Wyaconda (pronounced “walk-in-daw”) River that flowed through the northern boundary of the farm Erica grew up on.  It was named for the Foree family who were settlers of this area when it was the American frontier and although she didn’t know it until very recently, are also Erica’s ancestors.  When she was growing up, there was an old camp of the Kahoka Native Americans on the adjoining farm and in the spring, when the field was plowed, you could still see the outline of the fire rings and find beads or pieces of pottery.  As a child, Erica spent summers hiking the Foree Branch searching for arrowheads.  A fork of the Foree Branch cut south through the farm she grew up on and where it went under the driveway, it created a small swimming hole where she and her siblings spent the hottest days of summer cooling off or playing “Poohsticks”.  This section of the stream was called Erica Creek (pronounced “crick”) as named by her parents when she was small.  As such, Foree Branch recalls a simpler time when the values of honesty, integrity, kindness, and hard work were the foundation everything else was built on.  We strive to embody these values every day and invite you to experience the ethos of Foree Branch.
